The High Commission of the Republic of Malawi in Mozambique would like to inform nationals that that the Government of the Republic of Malawi and the Republic of Mozambique have an Agreement on Visa Waiver Reciprocity which was suspended during the State of Emergency so that Malawi Nationals were required to seek prior authorization before entering Mozambican territory.
Meanwhile the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, in its communication to the Mission informed of the contents of Number 1 of Article 12 (on Visas and Visa waiver agreement) of Decree No. 79/2020 of the Council of Ministers which declares the Public Disaster Situation and Activates the Red Alert in the Republic of Mozambique, in force since 7th September, 2020 which states:
“1. While the Situation of Public Disaster prevails, the visa waiver agreements entered into between the Mozambican State and other States shall remain valid on a reciprocity basis.”
Further to this the Mission, in consultation with the Government of the Republic of Malawi has assured the Government of the Republic of Mozambique on Malawi’s Visa waiver commitment. Therefore Malawians are no longer required to seek prior authorization before travelling to Mozambique. However, due to the preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19, Malawians are still required to produce the following when they travel into Mozambique:
i) Valid travelling Documents
ii) A negative COVD-19 test result which has been taken notmore than 72hours at the time of reaching the port of entry.
