The Government of the Republic of Malawi,with support from the African Development Bank (AfDB), has embarked on a project for Promoting Investment and Competitiveness in Tourism Sector (PICTS).

The Government of the Republic of Malawi,with support from the African Development Bank (AfDB), has embarked on a project for Promoting Investment and Competitiveness in Tourism Sector (PICTS). Under the program, the Department of Museums and Monuments, which is mandated to preserve, promote and study the natural and cultural heritage of Malawi, is implementing the Cultural Development Program (CDP).

As part of the activities aimed under the CDP, the Department of Museums and Monuments is participating in regional benchmarking visits on cultural heritage preservation, management and enterprise development.The delegation for the visits include representatives from each of the nationally recognized heritage associations in Malawi which include Chewa Heritage Foundation, MuhlakowaAlhomwe, Mzimba Heritage Association, MasekoNgoni, Tumbuka Association, MgumanowaaSenanaaMang’anja, Mdawukuwa a Tonga, Chiwanja cha a Yao, Chitipa-Karonga Heritage Association and MchinjiNgoni Heritage Associaton.

One such visit aimed at learning, sharing and applying best practices in cultural heritage preservation, was already made to Mozambique. A similar visit is earmarked to take place in the Royal Kingdom of Eswatini, during the last week of January, 2020.
